this on the other hand (from bram stoker's dracula) was unequivocally awesome. i think it was a really cool representation of dracula and it even had batman in it. this is definitely one of the best animated films ive seen lately (then again i can only think of maybe 3 that i have seen in the past year).
i thought it was interesting to look at the cast list for this film because i found that the voice of dracula was peter stormare who has played a number of other villains including satan in constantine. just thought that was kinda cool
It is interesting to note that sunlight is a vampire killer here, as it was (kind of) in Nosferatu. However, sunlight is merely the wrong time of day for Dracula-style vampires. I think one of the reasons it has become so popular is that it is an easy plot device to use: make the vampire stay outside 'til it's daytime. Or, if you're batman, lure him near your own personal sun-producer. We'll have to find the origin of that particular bit of lore.
ReplyDeleteOkay! i've been trying to write this comment and the blog is regecting me so it might not be everything i wanted to say....
ReplyDeleteNik: be thankful he didn't just shimmer at us in the sunlight.
Anyway, I loved this move much more than Bram Stroker's Dracula, which freaked me out a little.
The vampires in this movie felt to me a lot like zombies (except for Dracula) because they were very slow and dead and didn't seem to have the same agile "heightened senses" abilities like Dracula. I suppose this is because they were recent converts, but still.
One thing i thought was interesting is the bat relationship between batman and dracula, which came up a lot. i never really thought of Batman as having any such relationship with Dracula, or anyone, for that matter, so that was an interesting part of the plot.
Anyway, great movie :D
i would agree on the whole zombie thing. i felt like they were much more like zombies than vampires too.
ReplyDeleteand i also thought the whole dracula and batman relationship was cool too. i feel like even though it is right in his name i forget to even associate batman with bats..let alone dracula.
and how come nobody has commented on the post below this?
i did! i did! (and its because this movie was so much better...)
